Review trip details

First about transportation:

To reach the Old Village of Duong Lam Hanoi in this hot weather, you should get up early, go early, when the weather is still cool in the morning. Duong Lam ancient village is not too far from the center of Hanoi, only about 50km, so you can experience it by motorbike or bus.

Countryside communal yard

From the center of Hanoi, it only takes about 1h30p to move to Duong Lam, this time only applies to going straight, not crossing along!

The way to move: From Hanoi – Thang Long Avenue – Hoa Lac – Turn right, follow NH21 – Go straight to hospital 105 – There are signposts to Duong Lam Ancient Village.

In addition, you can choose from many other modes of transportation such as buses, private cars, taxis, … this one depends on each person’s preference, plus affordable. I use motorbike to save money.

Places to visit, check in at Duong Lam Ancient Village

After 1h30p move, you will finally land on Duong Lam Ancient Village. Making procedures to buy tickets, send cars of all types 30 minutes.

  • Ticket price: 20k / 1 person.
  • Parking ticket price: 10k / 1 car.

Also you can rent bicycles, the price is only 30-50k / 1 hour or rent for a whole day, it is from 100-150k / 1 day. For those who are “crazy legs” should choose to walk for convenience.

The sights in the ancient village of Duong Lam Hanoi:

  • Mong Phu village gate: After sending the car, we stopped by an old lady’s shop at the gate to buy a photo hat. Here I heard her talk about the entrance to Mong Phu village, which existed about 460 years ago. Wow, a little bit of a surprise because it still holds to this day. In particular, there is a very large banyan tree next to the village gate, the canopy covers the entire village gate, I asked her, and I know that this banyan tree is about 400 years old.

Ancient village gate

  • Dinh Mong Phu: Pass the village gate about 500m, you will reach Dinh Mong Phu. The first impression to me is that the gate is very large. Seeing the main gate closed, only the 2 side gates open for everyone to walk. I had a question that was explained by the old man from the communal house, only during the festival day the main gate was opened, because in the past, the main gate was for the king and the two sides were mandarins and mandarins. Sounds interesting, very useful information to us!
  • Co Well: Right next to Mong Phu communal house, there is a very big well. Built of laterite. I have heard from the ancestors of the family that the water here is very clear, people often go there to get water to eat or make soy sauce, but not to bathe!

Check-in Ancient well

Just check-in 3 places above, you will immediately think of the image of “Banyan tree, water well, communal yard” of the old northern countryside villages. Extremely interesting!

  • Old House: Old House of Mrs. Duong Thi Lan, Old House of Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Old House of Mr. Ha Nguyen Huyen, …

The 3 places we checked in were easy to find, but we were really hard to find when going to Old houses. So we went to a lady’s inn next to Mong Phu’s communal house to drink water and ask questions. After asking about it for a while, she sold a map with the message: “Go wherever you go, just look at the map”. So we follow the map directions.

You can visit 3 Old houses, a characteristic of Hanoi tourism

  • Old House of Ms. Duong Thi Lan.
  • Old House of Mr. Nguyen Van Hung.
  • Old House of Mr. Ha Nguyen Huyen.

Visit hundreds of years old houses

The general feeling of the above old houses is that they were built for a long time. The oldest house is that of Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, about 400 years old. Most of these old houses are built according to the structure of 5 tiled houses. The nave is usually a place to worship ancestors, while the other two compartments are for tables and chairs to receive guests. The remaining 2 rooms are the family bedroom.

Outside the courtyard of the old houses, there are many pots of lowland wine, especially the jars of rice sauce are very fragrant. Most of these old houses still retain traditional items such as corn mill, fish bowl, and other items.

Note:

  • When you come here to take pictures or visit, remember to ask the owner first.
  • Here the owner sells specialties such as lam tea, rice sauce, hemp cake, … after visiting, you can buy them as gifts.
  • If you rent a bicycle, pay attention to parking it carefully. Since the old houses are crowded with visitors, be careful.
  • Should buy yourself a map to find the way easily.

Experiencing all of the above places is also an empty stomach time. You can go back to Dinh Mong Phu to enter the house where she sells water next to the communal house.

Duong Lam in the golden sunshine

Eat, drink and rest until 1:30, we start to continue our journey to explore the remaining places here:

  • Cane Pagoda : This place is only visiting, not inside. The first impression when entering the gate is the Nine-storey tower (9 floors) very high. Inside there are statues of Buddha sitting very solemnly.
  • Lang Ngo Quyen Temple “The Ngo Quyen temple and mausoleum was built on a high hill, called Cam hill, facing the East. The temple was built above, about 100m from the mausoleum. The tomb of King Ngo Quyen is built as a covered stele house, about 1.5m high.
  • Ancient Duoi Range: This Duoi Range is right next to Ngo Quyen’s Mausoleum. The plankton here is over 1000 years old. Including 18 very large ruddy trees in a vertical row about 300m long. The ruddy tree is very beautiful, although it is nothing but taking pictures is fine. Anyone who is not afraid of being dirty can bring the canvas out there and spread it to the ground for a snack and then sleep for a peaceful sleep. There is nowhere like this in this noisy urban street, so you should try it once.
