Clay buffalos are featured in various postures of standing, lying, and eating grass.

NDO – Artisan Nguyen Van Xe has created a set of clay buffalos, the zodiac sign of 2021, with a hope that the buffalos will pull plough through a new year full of prosperity and luck.

Artisans at Thanh Ha Pottery Village in Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province, are busy with making products to serve increasing demand of customers ahead of the Lunar New Year festival.

Over its centuries of establishment, Thanh Ha pottery has distinguished itself from others thanks to its diverse colours. The villagers use clay from Thu Bon River to make pottery products.

Artisan Xe is the fourth generation of a family which has practiced pottery making for nearly 100 years.

To celebrate New Year 2021, he has created a nine large-sized clay buffalos and 20 medium-sized ones.

Xe said that buffalo is a very popular animal in Vietnam’s agricultural production. Therefore, he hoped that the making of clay buffalos will bring luck to the owners in 2021 – the Year of the Buffalo.
