While many tourists head to Hoi An for its old town, ancient architecture, and historical attractions, there are also some amazing beaches nearby. Beach-goers of all types enjoy the varying atmospheres around these sandy havens, ranging from party spots to locations for quiet reflection.

Families traveling with young kids can even find a place to kick a soccer ball around, build a sandcastle, or swim in water that isn’t too rough or deep. Consider finding an accompanying beach resort in Hoi An to keep your base close.

The best time of year to hit the beaches around Hoi An are February through April before temperatures rise. However, beaches typically remain busy and more crowded from May to August. If you plan to visit the Cham Islands, this is a seasonal activity that can only be done outside of the monsoon season, which goes from October to December.

In order of proximity, here are the top beaches near Hoi An.

Without surprise, An Bang Beach (Bãi biển An Bàng) is the most popular beach near Hoi An, thanks to its long stretch of soft sand, unspoiled shore landscapes, and abundance of things to do, see, and taste. This also means it can get pretty crowded on weekends or holidays, especially with several hotels, homestays, hostels, and restaurants within walking distance of the beach.

An Bang Beach has also been called the “party beach,” as many bars and eateries host lively events, drink specials, and late hours of operation. Water sports like surfing, swimming, jet-skiing, and paddle-boarding are popular on warm days. Visitors interested in renting equipment for water activities can do so at businesses along the beach.

Surfing season typically runs from September through March, and even though this isn’t a hotspot for the sport, the smaller waves make it an excellent location for kids or newbies to learn. The weekday mornings at An Beach are the quietest, as there aren’t many tourists or locals out on the sand. Yoga and meditation classes or watching the sunrise can be a calming experience.

Popular among visitors and locals, many individuals visit the beach after school or work in the latter part of the afternoon. Several people bike to the beach from Hoi An, so there are designated parking areas, but they can get pretty congested. An Bang South is technically the same beach, but it experiences a lot less traffic than the other sections of the area.

Local visitors who want to get away from the crowds and relax in the sun can walk further down the sand, past all primary establishments to reach this part of the beach. There are still restaurants and bars down there, so setting up in this area won’t be completely remote.

Situated between two famous beaches, An Bang and Cua Dai, Hidden Beach is somewhat true to its name in that it’s frequented a lot less than some of the others in Hoi An. This quiet property is tucked away but not too hard to find and is perfect for visitors looking for a peaceful retreat to meditate, read, and sunbathe to the sound of waves.

The less busy months between September through February are ideal for travelers looking for some solitude, although it’s common for locals to visit after 4 pm.

Hidden Beach has lounge chair rentals, which are free with the purchase of fruit or a drink. There are also restaurants right by the water that are great places to grab a snack or meal, and free parking is available to those willing to look for it. Getting to the beach is doable by taxi, motorbike, and car.

Coconut Beach – 5 km | 10 minutes

Located just to the northeast of Hoi An and south of An Bang Beach, Coconut Beach is a small public beach that offers excellent space to enjoy the ocean and outdoors. This lovely stretch of land is ideal for families looking to play on the sand and take a swim. Lounge chairs with umbrellas are dotted over the grounds and are available for day use.

A few hotels and resorts are right by the water, in addition to family-owned restaurants that cook up some delicious local cuisine and seafood.

What was once one of the busiest trading ports in Vietnam, Cua Dai Beach (Bãi biển Cửa Đại), is now a hotspot for tourists looking to spend some time on the beach. Rows of beautiful palm trees back the white sand and teal waters, and thatched umbrellas with lawn chairs under them are popular resting spots.

The vast spaces on this beach make it easy to find a place to set up for some sunbathing, but also be aware that local vendors will expect visitors to purchase at least a drink or some fruit from their stands. For a more romantic experience, visit Cua Dai Beach at night and bring a telescope to gaze up at the speckled evening skies.

The best time to visit Cua Dai Beach is on a weekday, as the weekends can be bustling, especially since it’s so close to the city. There are several accommodations right at the beach for people who wish to stay within walking distance of the water. Some of the most popular activities here include swimming, diving, sunbathing, and souvenir shopping along the street side.

Ha My Beach – 8 km | 15 minutes

Ha My Beach was relatively unknown until about 2017 when it was included in an “Asia’s Most Beautiful Beaches” article, which gave it quick traction. Even after gaining some fame, this quiet beach still retains its charm and doesn’t get overflooded by tourists.

The pristine white sand and sparkling blue water are just two of its top amenities, as there are also plenty of places to dine and shop within walking distance. There is also a five-star accommodation, The Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai (affiliate link), in addition to several homestays, hotels, and hostels.

Ha My Beach offers visitors plenty to do on the water, including jetskiing, swimming, paddle boarding, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and snorkeling. People who prefer to stay on land can also enjoy the area with numerous bike paths, umbrella rentals, lounge chair rentals, and barbecue equipment.

Restrooms, showers, and boat ramps are available, and dogs are allowed on the beach. Picnic tables are also present, which are great for an afternoon on the shore.

Cham Island – 15 km | 20 minutes to 1 hour

The Cham Islands (Cù Lao Chàm) are a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve consisting of eight islets, with Hon Lo being the biggest and only inhabited one. This destination is reachable from Hoi An for a day trip or overnight excursion and attracts numerous beach lovers and outdoors enthusiasts.

Bai Cong, Bai Ong, Bai Bac, and Bai Xep are the main beaches on Hon Lo and offer gorgeous teal waters and picture-perfect places to spend some time in the sun.

Getting to Cham Island can be accomplished by ferry, speedboat, or market boat, but keeping track of time is vital if you’re only making a day trip. Usually, the last boat of the day departs in mid-afternoon, and getting left behind can require more money to be spent on last-minute overnight accommodations.

The island is a great place to escape everyday life and is an excellent place for diving, snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing in a tropical environment. Most people get around Cham Island on a motorbike, and there are several places to dine that feature fresh seafood. Binh Minh Beach – 22.5 km | 30 minutes

Lined with palm trees and boasting fine white sand, Binh Minh Beach ( Bãi Biển Binh Minh) is 3 km/1.8 miles long and about 100 meters wide. This quiet retreat is a rare gem in Vietnam, as it doesn’t get too populated during the weekdays and has clear waters with mild waves, ideal for doing water activities.

The name Binh Minh translates to “Sunset” in English, making this another place to consider for ending the day with some yoga on the beach.

Even though there aren’t many places to dine right at the beach, few places are within walking distance. However, there are also vendors selling fruit and drinks, and it’s custom to buy some if you plan on renting a chair. Other features of this beach include barbecue grills, boat ramps, showers, tables, camping lots, and dogs are allowed.
