Bicycle fan cafe in Saigon

Located in District 3, Bike Coffee is not only a coffee shop, but also a meeting place for cycling lovers.

During the Covid-19 season, Vo Hoang Phuc, 32 years old (blue shirt), and two friends decided to open a Bike Coffee shop for bike and bicycle enthusiasts. Working as an English guide since the end of 2009, Mr. Phuc said he loved bicycles because he had a long time cycling to school from elementary school to university.

Instead of sitting at home waiting for the translation to pass or doing other things to live through the season, Mr. Phuc devoted his efforts to building a coffee shop for those who share passion. The shop opened in July, in the middle of two Covid-19 waves in Vietnam, but gradually attracted visitors.

As a regular customer, Ms. Thuc Quyen was interested in the layout of the restaurant. I myself are a lover of bicycles and want to find a bicycle for her 11-year-old daughter so learn and know about the shop. In addition to enjoying the comfortable atmosphere to sip a drink, coming to the restaurant, she also has a detailed consultation on how to choose a bicycle for her daughter.

Mr. Phuc shared that this coffee shop is also a long-term business solution. As a result, he can help his friends and colleagues have more income, and practice knowledge as well as English for the tourist season after Covid-19. Most of the staff at the restaurant are university students and English guides. Working in the shop is Ngoc Thuy, 22 years old, with 2 years of experience as a tour guide. Thuy said, during her work, she learned new skills such as mixing drinks, knowledge of bicycles, and retraining English.

Anh Toan, 35 years old, used to be a domestic and international tour guide. He knew Phuc happened to be on a business trip to the West: Tra Vinh – Can Tho – Long Xuyen – Chau Doc. Currently, he is in charge of engineering and repairing bicycles for everyone on cycling through Vietnam with foreign visitors. Because of the same passion for bicycle tours, he worked with Phuc. The income level is not high, but Toan is happy that he has money to manage during the season. Moreover, every day, he interacted with the brothers who loved bicycles, including those who were good at all three subjects: swimming – cycling – running. People in the restaurant called “Complete mechanic” fun.

The cafe is called “the community of bicycle enthusiasts”. They come here to share knowledge of vehicles, vehicle milk technology, and care for customers on the road. On the distance of 60 – 80 km, how to have the strength to continue pedaling in rainy weather or unusually hot weather is one of the issues that tour guides and technicians like Toan are very concerned with.

In addition to a space for guests to drink coffee, the shop has a space to sell and take care of cycling-related items. In addition to opening a cafe for cyclists, the owner also established a group called Saigon Morning Ride with many participants including Vietnamese and foreigners in Vietnam. Mr. Phuc also organizes bicycle tours to historic cultural sites in the city, providing information in Vietnamese and English.

Currently, Mr. Phuc, Toan and other travel-loving students and guides often hold a knowledge sharing session in English every Tuesday at the restaurant. Bike Coffee is located on Hoang Sa Street, District 3, open from 5:00 to 23:00 daily. The price of drinks here is 29,000 – 45,000 VND / dish.
