When someone mentions Hoi An, the Bridge of Lights surrounded by colorful lanterns is usually the first picture that comes to mind. As a central focus for Hoi An’s Ancient Town, the Bridge of Lights is extremely popular, especially in the evening when the bridge is illuminated.

The Bridge of Lights connects Ancient Town to Nguyen Hoang Island, where you’ll find the Hoi An Night Market, several luxury resorts, clubs, bars, and the famous Lune Center for the Performing Arts.

Hoi An Lantern Full Moon Festival

If you are lucky enough to visit Hoi An during a full moon, then the Bridge of Lights serves as the backdrop for the hundreds of colorful lanterns released on the Bon River.

Hoi An is extremely busy during a full moon, with hundreds of people descending on the Bridge of Lights throughout the evening. Be prepared for lots of people and queues!

Best Time to Visit

If you want to avoid the crowds, the best time to visit the Bridge of Lights is in the morning before most tourists arrive in Ancient Town. The streets around Ancient Town close at 9 am, so it’s best to get there around 8 am so you can drive right up to the bridge.

The downside of visiting during the day is you don’t get to see the bridge lit up, but you will have more time to explore the structure and take some pics without any crowds. If you’re willing to wait late into the night, Ancient Town starts to die down between 10 pm and midnight.

The best way to experience the Bridge of Lights is on a gondola-style boat cruise. From the water, you’ll get an unimpeded view of the bridge as you cruise through its arch.
