Carrying 30-year-old tofu with ‘small price but amazing quality’ in food alley 284 Le Van Sy

Saigon has many famous food alleys such as food alley 76 Hai Ba Trung district 1, food alley 606 district 10 or food alley 284 Le Van Sy, district 3. Each food alley has countless dishes and shops. There are restaurants that just stop at “vuwfaf”, but there are also really excellent ones.

For example, a tofu shop or rather a tofu shop with honey in alley 284 Le Van Sy. In the alley full of North – Central – South dishes, this tofu load still has its own attraction that makes many people come just to eat a cup of tofu.

Although the whole property is only encapsulated in two large pots and a few plastic chairs for convenience, this tofu is almost 30 years old, attached to the childhood of many Saigon people. Ms. Hiep, the owner of the shop has been attached to this tofu load since her 20s. Nearly 30 years have passed, Saigon has changed a lot, but her tofu is still the same, only if the pot is too old, replace it with a new one.

Miss Hiep uses a large pot to make tofu, and a small pot to boil molasses, sweet and fragrant with ginger. Of course, Ms. Hiep’s load could not be complete without 2 coffee pots containing greasy coconut milk and a small bowl full of pearls she made by hand.

Because of making her own pearls, Hiep’s pearls are large, not to mention that before she puts them in a bowl of tofu, she also dips them in a pot of honey to add infusion and aroma, so eating is both sweet and supple. This is also a memorable point that makes her tofu dish addictive to many people and stands out in hundreds of tofu shops in Saigon.

Pearls are also molded by Ms. Hiep, cut by herself, so they are big, different from the pearls bought from many vendors.

Hiep’s cup of tofu consists of many slices of soft and fat tofu, added with brown molasses, a small spoon of pearls and finally a little bit of greasy coconut milk. The bowl of tofu is therefore, without needing to do anything, just bring it out and want to eat it right away.

Eating a cup of tofu from Miss Hiep, I found the soft fat, the sweet, the chewy ones with a bit of ginger on the tip of the tongue. In addition, the honey here is only soothing, not harsh, not good, so many people who visited Ms. Hiep’s shop took advantage of 2 cups of food to make it worth the effort.

Not only that, Ms. Hiep is also very thoughtful when placing the tofu bowl in a small aluminum bowl so that diners don’t get hot or simply to keep their hands clean.

It is worth mentioning that although the tofu bowl here is very high quality, the price is very soft. For many years a cup of tofu only kept the price of 5 thousand, until recently Miss Hiep increased the price to 6,000 then 7,000. Whether working people or students, students can comfortably come and enjoy at any time.

Hiep’s tofu shop sells all day, from 6am to 6pm, so you can almost always visit and enjoy.
