Located in the town of Duong Dong on Phu Quoc Island, you’ll find the Dinh Cau Temple built on a unique rock formation at the beach. The temple is surrounded by the beauty of the ocean, making it a widespread place to capture extraordinary views of the water and unforgettable sunsets.

Even though it is a popular tourist attraction, it’s also an operating religious structure that many fishermen pray at before long or difficult voyages. Dinh Cau Beach, where the shrine is set, is a short walk from town and nearby the Duong Dong night market.

To reach the temple, visitors must walk up the 28 steps of a winding staircase that ends at the entrance. The best views can be found on top of its roof, with panoramic scenes of islets, boats, and seemingly endless miles of water.

There is no cost to enter the temple, but visitors should wear clothing that is respectful to those who visit the shrine for prayer.

Dinh Cau Temple was built in 1937 to honor the Goddess of the Sea, Thien Hau, who locals believe to protect the native fishermen. Each year, it’s visited by many travelers from around the world, but it’s especially active during local holidays.

The annual Dinh Cau Festival occurs about halfway through the 10th lunar month, usually around October 15-16, and is a time when over 100,000 people come to celebrate, swim, and pray to Thien Hau.

Since the temple is located in Duong Dong Town, consider stopping by the Duong Duong Market during the day or Din Cau Night Market come evening.
