During a hot day in Vietnam, a dip in Elephant Springs’s cool waters will refresh your body and mind. On-site, there are bamboo huts to store your belongings, drink beers, and try the local cuisine.

Earning its name due to the large elephant-shaped boulder positioned above the pools, Elephant Springs, although popular with tourists, is not overrun. Located between Hue and Da Nang, this secluded, natural swimming area is surrounded by dense jungle vegetation, making visitors feel as though they have been transported to a hidden oasis.

Swimming Area

Elephant Springs is nestled between two waterfalls and consists of stunningly clear waters. It’s advised, regardless of your swimming experience, that you rent a lifejacket as any slip could result in hitting a large or small stone at the bottom of the stream.

While visiting the spring, make sure you try a few local delicacies such as grilled frogs, snails, and fish cooked in a variety of different manners. Moreover, if you aren’t too adventurous when it comes to food, you can try the local chicken, noodles, and tapioca cake while relaxing under one of the shelters next to the pools.

Of course, as a visitor, it may also be fun to catch your own snails or crabs in the cliffs of the spring.

The spring has a minimal entrance fee and visitors should be aware that there have been reports of scammers near the park, so be cautious of forceful individuals demanding money.

It’s also recommended that you bring water and snacks since the food area is only open during peak times and days. Being a public space, there are no designated hours of operation, and guests are asked to remove any trash they may accumulate.

Getting There

Elephant Springs is about 53 kilometers outside of Hue (1 hr drive) and 20 kilometers from Hai Van Pass, one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. You can rent a private car, ride a motorbike, or find a bus to get there.
