Former hacker and now cybersecurity teacher – Marcus Hutchins – shared a video on Tiktok explaining how customers can check where they hire to make sure there aren’t any hidden cameras.

“One way to see if something is a hidden camera is to shine a bright light on it,” he says. If you shine it directly at the camera lens, it will produce bluish reflected light. You can test by shining a flashlight on your phone to see how the camera works when the flashlight is on.”

He did the same thing with the alarm clock, which also reflected that suspicious blue light. “If we shine a bright light on it and look through the glass, it’s possible to detect a hidden camera there. The technique can also work on two-way mirrors,” he said.

Always check for any suspicious equipment or holes facing the shower, changing area, or bed

“The hidden night vision camera uses infrared LEDs to see, and if we turn off the lights and use the front camera of the phone to look, we can actually see these hidden LEDs. On the back there is an IR (infrared) filter, so it’s hard to detect the hidden camera.”

The hacker’s video has been viewed 33 million times, and viewers are shocked to discover there are so many ways to hide cameras in a rental apartment, motel or hotel room.
