Hotels in Cambodia are on fire during New Year’s Eve 2022

More than 80% of hotels in Cambodia are fully booked, especially in the coastal provinces and the capital Phnom Penh on New Year’s Eve 2022 due to the high number of tourists.

With the pent-up mentality of having been at home for most of the year and getting used to “living with Covid-19”, many families have decided to go on vacation for the New Year. As noted by the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, this year’s New Year holiday coincides with the weekend, so the number of tourists increases. More than 80% of hotels are fully booked, especially in the coastal provinces and the capital Phnom Penh.

According to Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism Thong Khon, on the occasion of welcoming the New Year 2022 this weekend, hotels and motels in some provinces such as Kep, Kampot and Mondulkiri, etc. have “burned out”, while other Other provinces such as: Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong, Siem Reap, Battambang and Ratanakiri also have high booking rates.

Due to the number of tourists flocking to tourist areas on the occasion of the New Year, the authorities of some provinces and cities have organized decorations, cultural and artistic performances to welcome the new year 2022 to attract tourists. Along with that, the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia also announced that it will set up a number of campsites for tourists if the number of rooms cannot meet all demand. And the Ministry will also supervise hotel services, especially food and beverage prices, and services at amusement parks.

About the current “room fire”, Ms. Khay Chenda, Vice President of the Cambodia Hotel Association, said that these are positive signs for the revival of the tourism industry after a long period of shutdown because Covid-19 epidemic. Ms. Khay Chenda affirmed, hotels are ready to welcome visitors, providing quality services and affordable prices.

According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, in the past two weekends (December 25-26, 2021), the average number of tourists in the country increased by 24.7% compared to the previous weekend. In which, the capital Phnom Penh and the province of Preah Sihanouk have the highest number of tourists (Phnom Penh welcomes more than 55,000 visitors, Sihanoukville about 45,000 visitors, Siem Reap more than 25,000 visitors).
