Sticky rice cake with pepper is a familiar street food in Da Lat. Coming to the city of love, just stop at a small corner of Phan Dinh Phung and Ba Thang Hai streets, you will immediately see the scene of Da Lat people waiting in line to buy sticky rice with pepper cake next to a street vendor.

For more than 30 years, Ms. Nam’s burden of sticky rice with pepper cake has been a familiar breakfast place for Da Lat people. She sells from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on weekends, it’s crowded with tourists, sometimes it’s only after 8 o’clock that both pots of sticky rice are sold out. No advertising, no need to know the address, yet tourists still find the right sticky rice shop. Strange! Perhaps it is because the aroma from the 2 pots of sticky rice and the crowded and bustling scene makes it easy for people to recognize.

The woman originally from Da Nang shared that she has been in love with sticky rice cake for more than 30 years. The shop only sells two types of rice: sticky rice with sticky rice and sticky rice with peanuts. However, the most popular dish is the sticky rice cake. The dish looks simple but it is extremely sophisticated. The pepper cake must be soft, not too crispy, and have a beautiful golden color. Depending on your preference, you can combine both types of sticky rice with pepper cake. The top is sprinkled with sesame salt, sugar, and shredded coconut to increase the flavor. Over time, sticky rice cake has become Miss Nam’s trademark. Just mentioning this dish, people will immediately remember the small street vendors nestled on the corner of Phan Dinh Phung street.

In order for guests not to wait too long, Ms. Nam often prepares the sticky rice in advance. When there are guests, just clamp on the pepper cake and you’re done. Unlike many other sticky rice shops, Co Nam’s sticky rice is limited in use of plastic, so it does not use foam boxes. Instead, sticky rice will be wrapped with a layer of newspaper or paper for easy handling. Such a part only costs 10,000 VND.
