Perfume River – Hue

Vietnam’s Perfume River begins life at the Truong Son Mountains before flowing through the city of Hue. During fall, flowers from the surrounding orchards fall into the river before being carried upstream – giving the water a distinctive floral scent.

One of the most popular landmarks in Hue, the Perfume River (Song Huong) has long provided a livelihood for local residents. You’ll find quaint villages and olde-worlde towns, such as the Imperial City of Hue, along its banks.

The Perfume River is lauded for its stunning, picturesque sunset views.  A highly popular spot for boat tours year-round, if you fancy something more active, paddleboarding tours are also available. Keep an eye out for the Truong Tien Bridge,  a 403 m crossing built in 1899 by Eiffel and an enduring symbol of Hue.

Other notable Perfume River sites include the tomb of Minh Mang, Thien Mu Pagoda, and the Hon Chem Temple. One of the most beautiful tributaries in Vietnam, be sure to visit the Perfume River during Autumn so you can smell the flowery aroma that makes it so famous.
