In addition, the houses are marked with color codes to help fishermen identify their homes after a long day at sea. You would think that a house number alone would be enough to distinguish one house from another, but if you put yourself in the shoes of the fishermen, walking down the canal in a fishing boat and into the night night in the thick fog, your signature brightly colored houses will be much easier to recognize.

The buildings in Burano are very simple in contrast to the architecture found in central Venice. Just a square building with two or three floors.

Burano is the home of handmade crochet lace

It is because of this long-standing lace-making profession that in Burano there is also a lace museum. Lace museum is located in Galuppi square at Torcello’s Podestà palace in Burano. In the past (from 1872 to 1970), the palace was a school for crocheting. At the museum, you can learn about the tradition and history of lace making as well as the techniques used by the lacemakers. There are many lace exhibitions going on in this town.
