Staying at an Airbnb in Vietnam

Airbnb rentals in Vietnam are becoming increasingly popular, providing travelers with even more accommodation options during their visits. While there are many hotels, homestays, and hostels available in just about every city, tourists that appreciate having a property or room at a private residence will lean towards booking one of these rentals instead.

The owners set nightly rates with the more centrally located and convenient properties typically costing more. Additionally, the rentals that have more space or amenities as well as those that give you the entire place to yourself will be more expensive. While searching for an Airbnb in Vietnam, there are several things to consider and keep an eye out for to get the most out of your stay.

Types of Rentals

The majority of big cities offer homes, apartments, and condominiums as rentals, however, depending on the region and environment, various other unique properties can be reserved. In coastal towns, many trendy properties are oceanfront or within walking distance to beaches, while mountain villages might have bungalows, villas, or cabin-like retreats available.

It’s also not uncommon for families to have a guesthouse or extra bedroom that gets put up for bookings on Airbnb. While this might not be the best option for groups larger than one or two, it can be a great and often cost-effective solution for couples or those who are traveling solo.

Usually, the homeowners are not too far away and can be helpful to guests who need guidance or assistance navigating through the area. The types of rentals in Vietnam include but are not exclusive to:

  • Lofts
  • Houses
  • Condos
  • Farmstays
  • Guesthouses
  • Private Rooms
  • Bungalows
  • Cottages
  • Villas
  • Huts

Checking In + Out

Since Airbnbs are not hotels with a reception desk, checking in and out is done differently. Many properties that rent out an entire home or apartment use a smart lock to allow visitors to self-check themselves in, but in other cases, the host will meet their guests at the property during certain hours.

Security guards can also be responsible for letting visitors into the accommodations, either as a hired employee or a family member that lives on-site and manages their guests coming and going. Guards are standard in Vietnam, and most stores and upscale apartment complexes will have one to monitor the parking situation and foot traffic.

If you’ve booked a property through Airbnb and can no longer keep your reservation, refer to the rental property’s main page to see what the cancellation rules are. Many hosts will allow you to get a full refund up until 24 hours prior, to your stay while others may only return half of your deposit. In some cases, canceling a property with short notice may lead to still having to pay for it in full.

Having accommodations with all the specific amenities you love will make a big difference in your overall travel experience. Vacationers looking to book rentals with popular features like a swimming pool, bicycle rentals, and ocean views can do so using the filter option in the search bar.

Selecting the amenities you want in the advanced search feature will help you narrow down which property suits your needs the best. Some of the most popular Airbnb features in Vietnam include:

  • WiFi
  • Bicycles
  • Fireplace
  • Self-check-in
  • Washer & Dryer
  • Beachfront views
  • Air conditioning
  • Private entrance
  • Security cameras
  • Swimming pools

Sometimes the most crucial feature of a property is its location. After selecting the dates that you need accommodations, Airbnb conveniently allows you to use their map to zoom in on areas you’re interested in to see what rentals are available during those nights, along with the prices.
