The eternal love story of the Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is said to be a symbol of the romantic love that King Shah Jahan has for his beloved wife, Queen Mahal Mumtalz.

Although she was betrothed to Queen Mahal Mumtalz when she was 14 years old, it took five years for the two to become married. Mahal Mumtalz is not the only wife of King Shah Jahan, but she is the only love of the king. She has always stood shoulder to shoulder with her husband even when discussing politics or during pregnancy. However, when she was pregnant with her fourteenth child, she died forever at the age of 39.

Before the death of his wife, King Shah Jahan built a mausoleum located on the banks of the Yamuna River with an area of up to 12,000 m2 to express his undying love for his wife. And after 22 years, from 1631 to 1653, the Taj Mahal with all white marble was built as proof of the king’s love for his wife.

The distinctive architecture of the Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is the most typical work of Mughal Islamic architecture, the space here shows all the features of Turkey, Persia and India. The Taj Mahal consists of 5 zones: the main gate of Darwaza, the Masjid mosque, the Naqqar Khana guesthouse, the Bageecha garden space and the Rauza (Taj Mahal mausoleum). In particular, all these works are built symmetrically, very special.

The Taj Mahal is built entirely of white marble. Thanks to that, the Taj Mahal can change color based on the intensity of sunlight each day. At each time frame, this work shines with separate colors, sparkling and beautiful like a precious jewel.

The roof of the Taj Mahal is round domed, next to it are 4 small round arches with 4 sharp corners 40m high. In addition to the main material is white marble, the mausoleum is also decorated with many jade carpets and borders made of 12 types of precious stones. The inner floor is divided into black and . On the path from the archway is engraved the lines of the Koran, if you look up from below, you will see that the text on the arch is the same size, but in fact the text below is small, and the text on the arch is quite large. These Arabic inscriptions mean: “O soul at rest. Return to God, be at peace with Him, and He will be at peace with you.”

One of the unique features of the Taj Mahal is the symmetrical architecture on the square foundation. Perhaps this is the only building in the world that achieves such symmetry. The carved motifs on the marble background at the Taj Mahal also attract a lot of attention. When admiring them, visitors feel like they are looking at a perfect 3D picture with each flower, soft carved leaf.

Visitors are not allowed to take pictures inside the mausoleum because it is the resting place of King Shah Jahan and Queen Mumtaz Mahal. Because it is a construction to show love to his wife, the queen’s tomb is placed in the middle, and the king after his death is placed next to his wife by his son, so this is the only asymmetric detail of the Taj. Mahal.
