The boy makes billions of money thanks to a bamboo straw

Studying at University of Architecture, Nguyen Van Mao is a “giant” by selling bamboo flute and also from bamboo he has an income of 7-8 billion VND per year thanks to … making straws.

Looking at Mao in a shirt, shoulder straps, mouth and mouth as a student, no one would have expected that he was a director of a company with more than 200 employees in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi.

Over the past two years, the production of bamboo straws has brought a significant benefit to Mao’s company. The orders to Germany, India, Australia, Taiwan, … help him earn 7-8 billion dong a year. However, before reaching great success at the age of 32, Mao started his business with a love of bamboo.

Since he was a 6-year-old boy in the mountainous district of Tan Ky, Nghe An, Nguyen Van Mao liked to play the flute. That hobby followed a young man from the west of Nghe to the university lecture hall. Thanks to learning, Mao became a “teacher” of 4 flute clubs in Hanoi.

Once, seeing that you can make very beautiful flutes by yourself, Mao also came to try. But Mao’s flute was made just to give away to people at the club or to friends Viet Kieu who love national musical instruments. On average, he makes more than 400 flutes each year by himself. On forums and social networks, Mao is one of the most known amateur flute players.

Later, a friend suggested “selling the flute for no profit”, the market sold each flute for 150,000 VND, Mao only sold 1/3. Knowing about a “flute lover community” so customers turned to him. Working alone, Mao cooperated with 4 friends from the same hometown, aiming to do business.

In the last two years of university, Mao has an income of 60-70 million VND from bamboo flute each month. After graduation, he built his university degree and rented a business shop in Hanoi.

Three years ago, a friend suggested that bamboo straws were selling well, “having raw material areas, labor or trying hard”. I don’t believe and forget this business idea. Suddenly a year later, another friend who worked on import and export ordered Mao to test-produce 1,000 bamboo straws for export abroad. The production method is simple, the machines and workers are all taken advantage of from making bamboo flute. At the age of 30, he decided to “encroach on the field”.

Mao reconnected with overseas Vietnamese in the past, he gave his bamboo flute, thanks to finding a source of overseas customers, especially in countries where plastic straws were banned. Receiving an order to export 20,000 bamboo straws with a high selling price while the domestic raw materials are very cheap, Mao said that this is a fertile land so he determined to explore.

“I stayed in the Central Highlands for a month, driving a motorbike for hundreds of kilometers a day to find raw materials. Knowing the standards of foreign businesses was so strict, I strictly controlled the production process and registered intellectual property. intellectual, brand design “, Mao said. Realizing Dong Nai is a rich raw material area, he opened a factory here. Then, in order to take advantage of cheap human resources in the countryside, in mid-2019, Mao opened a third factory in Nghe An.

When the warehouse in his hometown was not completed, he still let 10 trucks carry raw materials from Dong Nai for production. Raw materials have to be sun dried for 3 months to use, but in Nghe An, one month in the sun, the central region has poured heavy rain. More than 700 million dong of raw materials dissipated in just one day.

“I forgot that the weather in the central region is not the same as that in the south. The next time I bring the goods back, I only import the ingredients that have been dried. The warehouses, I also have to build more complete,” Mao said.

Having money, he was “invited” by his friends to invest in real estate, raise fish, … breakeven, billions of money losses, but Mao considered it a game. “The passion for art and living in the student environment of 6 universities helps me to think simply and seem more carefree than other entrepreneurs,” he laughed.

Like “young”, even though he dropped out of Vinh Pedagogical University, graduated from University of Architecture, Mao still took the entrance exam to 4 other universities. Currently, he is the first year student at the University of Transport and the fourth year student at the University of Trade Union.

“It is very carefree. Today, he loses billions, the next day, he still plays a normal flute guitar”, Mr. Nguyen Van Khang, 63 years old, Father Mao said.

Mao said that his success comes from his passion for the flute and his luck. You contemplate, love something, so wholeheartedly, conscientious, not discouraged. “Just carefree love, do not plan, then one day, it will come to us deserving,” said the 32-year-old student.
