The boy recreated 200 models of the beauty crown

Nguyen Quoc Huong, 23 years old, an office worker from Tien Giang’s hometown, fell in love with beauty crowns when she was still a student.

In 2017, Huong’s class studied event management, needed a crown for the brand ambassador to attend the ceremony. Loved crafts, Huong accepted to try.

From materials such as paper, zinc, stone, paint… the first-year student gave birth to a “remake” crown of the Miss Vietnam 2014 crown model, which was praised by teachers and friends.

Seeing that the crafting was not too difficult, Huong continued to search for crown samples of beauty pageants around the world, looking for ways to recreate them.

Normally, it takes several months for Huong to find the most suitable materials such as paper, stone, paint, glue, etc.

There are many crown models that can’t find the same materials as the original in terms of color, shape, he uses nail polish or grinds large stones to the desired shape.

The process of making a crown includes 5 steps: Draw, shape with hard paper, use a paper cutter to cut along the lines and then thread the zinc wire according to the patterns to keep the crown stronger. Next is to shape up to look like the original crown.

Step three is to spray paint evenly on the sides of the crown, the gold model is painted gold, silver is painted silver. Waiting for the paint to dry, then attaching stones and pearls according to the pattern and then using a small fire to heat the glue remaining on the crown are the last two steps to complete the work.

According to Huong, the most difficult stage to complete a crown is drawing up a drawing. At first, because of the lack of images of the original crown, the simulation process was difficult when not drawing enough details on the side faces.

Moreover, due to inexperience in cutting and shaping, making the product, not like the original, Huong had to paint over and over again. Later, when social networks developed, access to the original crown image was complete and easy, making it easier to reproduce.

Huong takes 3-5 days to complete a work. With multi-tiered or textured crown models like Miss Grand International, the time may take longer.

In addition to the crowns of major international competitions, Huong also crafted crowns from many domestic beauty contests. Most recently, he made many people admire when he posted a remake of Thuy Tien’s crown – Miss International Peace 2021 on his personal page.

So far, this guy has made about 200 crowns with more than 50 different models from domestic and foreign beauty contests.

He also often posts video clips recording the making process on his personal page, receiving many likes and comments.

Previously, Huong made crowns because of her passion, mainly for collecting. But recently, many people asked to buy it because of love or work, so he also sold it.

The price of each piece ranges from 250,000 to 1,300,000 VND depending on the material as well as the difficulty. On average, Huong sells 3-5 units per month.

Although it is only a side job, working in his spare time, the 23-year-old young man still hopes to spread his passion for the profession to people with the same interests.

“In the future, I want to open a small restaurant or coffee shop and display the crowns I made. Hopefully, this is a playground for people to share experiences with each other,” Huong said.
