Two pagodas set records in Binh Duong
Hoi Khanh Temple has an Asian reclining Buddha statue, and the Tibetan temple owns the largest hair-made statue in Vietnam.
Hoi Khanh pagoda (Phu Cuong ward, Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong province) was built in 1741. In 2013, the pagoda inaugurated a statue of Duc Bon, Thich Ca in Nirvana, 52 m long, 12 m high, sitting at an altitude. 23 m from the ground, located on the roof of the pagoda.
This work is located on an area of 13,000 m², recognized as the longest reclining Buddha statue in Vietnam. The statue is also established by the Asian Record Organization as “the longest pagoda roof in Asia”.
On the opposite side of the Buddha statue lies the main hall of the temple, 700 m2 wide, built in the style of three rooms with two wings.
Inside the ancient main hall there are hundreds of Buddha statues. Main building materials for the main hall are made of wood with trusses, columns, and wooden walls, creating a structural frame in the traditional way.
In the main hall, there are 100 gold-painted jackfruit wood sculptures. The highlight is the set of a set of about 90 cm high La Han bowls with a natural peaceful spirit. The statues are the artifacts of a group of famous craftsmen from Thu Dau Mot land in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Other motifs around the pagoda such as dragon phoenix, small Buddha statue, reliefs … are intricately carved from pieces of china, creating sculptures of artistic value.
The highlight outside the main hall is a 27-meter-high seven-storey tower built in 2007. Next to it is the ancient Tu Van tower with a screen, delicate carved decorative patterns.
Nearly 2 km from Hoi Khanh pagoda is the Tibetan temple , built in 1928 with the first name of Buu Huong Tu. In 1937 the temple was renamed as it is today after the abbot’s trip to Tibet to study Buddhism. Today, the pagoda is located in a surrounding hill covered with green trees.
At the time of construction, the pagoda was just a small temple to worship Buddha. After a major restoration in 1992, this place looked almost like a Tantric temple in Tibet.
The main hall is surrounded by a towering garden, with a square structure, the highlight is the stupa to worship relics and the quadrilateral over 15 meters high.
In the middle of the main hall, the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni sitting in meditation is 2.3 meters high. Around there are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in different positions.
Behind the main hall is a statue of Dat Ma Su To, confirmed by the Vietnam Record book as the largest hair statue in Vietnam. The statue was made in 1982, nearly 3 m high, except for the frame made of iron, the main material is made of hair obtained from Buddhists. An interesting example is that on his burden, there is also a conical hat bearing Vietnamese culture.
Mandala stupa in the temple is about 15 m high, the architecture commonly seen in Tibetan temples.
In the temple, there are many statues depicting Buddhist traditions, surrounded by green trees. On the first occasion of the year, the Tibetan temple had many people going to pilgrimage. The most crowded pagoda is on the evening of the eighth of January because it holds the ceremony of worshiping stars and praying for peace for the Tanh Phuong.
