Although June is one of the most uncomfortable months to visit Hanoi weather-wise, it is somehow the peak season for tourists. Because school is out for the summer in June, family trips become increasingly common throughout the country, especially in Hanoi.

June is also the month when many delicious fruits come into season, including watermelon, pineapple, lychee, mango, and more.

If you choose to visit Hanoi in June, you will have the chance to view the national flower of Vietnam: the lotus. In Vietnamese culture, the lotus flower symbolizes optimism, purity, calmness, and dedication. The best place to find the lotus flower in Hanoi is within Dam Sen in West Lake.

On the fifth day of the fifth moon in the lunar calendar, the Vietnamese celebrate Tet Doan Ngo, which marks the summer solstice. The day is celebrated with festivities intended to ward off epidemics that can be caused by the scorching summer heat. Dragon-boat races are a common activity during his time.

The Chem Temple Festival, which takes place on the fifteenth day of the fifth lunar month, is a colorful festival dedicated to Vietnamese hero Ly Ong Trong. Parts of the city have been known to flood during a particularly heavy downpour, and traveling to the countryside can become difficult as heavy rains can cause poor road conditions.

If you do, however, decide to travel to Hanoi during this time, make sure that you bring light, sweat-absorbent clothes to combat that heat as much as possible, and always have rain gear on hand as storms are unpredictable and can take place for long periods of time.

Due to the extended periods of rainfall, UV rays are not as strong in June, but sun protection is still recommended as Hanoi receives one of the highest amounts of direct sunlight compared to other months.
