Although temperatures are exceptionally hot and humid during this time of year, April is still a great time to visit Ho Chi Minh City to enjoy all that the city has to offer. The heavy rainfall is yet to come and there are plenty of ways to cool off in the city aside from air conditioning.

If you’re looking to beat the heat, take a dip into one of Ho Chi Minh City’s many outdoor swimming pools, such as the Van Thanh Pool, the Lam Son Pool, or the Lan Anh Club Pool. The Dam Sen Water Park offers a variety of slides and rides for those of all ages, which is another excellent option for those looking to cool off.

On April 30, Ho Chi Minh City locals celebrate Reunification Day. This public holiday marks the fall of the Saigon government in 1975, which brought an end to the Vietnam War and unified the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in the north and the Republic of Vietnam in the south. During this celebration, streets are adorned with national flags, colorful banners, and flower installations, and in some years, extravagant parades are held along the main street featuring entertaining live performances.

If you decide to visit Ho Chi Minh City around Reunification Day, consider taking a tour of the Reunification Palace, which was the site of the end of the Vietnam War. Also, consider exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels outside Saigon to learn more about the history of the Vietnam War.

April can be an ideal time of year to visit Ho Chi Minh City for those looking for a hot, tropical vacation getaway. However, the heat and humidity can make the weather feel quite uncomfortable to some people, so if this is you, consider visiting during a cooler and less humid time of year.

Due to April’s warm temperatures, it’s not necessary to wear anything more than a t-shirt and shorts during this time of year. Although it’s sunny, so you’ll still see long sleeved clothes and pants on the locals. It’s best to wear light, sweat-absorbent clothes to make the humidity feel less of a burden. Be sure to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful UV rays by wearing plenty of sun protection.

As rainfall begins to increase this month leading up to the wet season, an umbrella and light raincoat would be wise to bring in case you are met with unexpected rains during your time in Ho Chi Minh City.
