Although September’s high humidity and constant rains deter many people from visiting Ho Chi Minh City during this time of year, there are still some exciting festivals and holidays to celebrate.

On September 2, Ho Chi Minh City celebrates National Independence Day with music, patriotic flag displays, cultural art programs and fireworks. This festival celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1945 of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and also falls on the anniversary of Ho Chi Minh’s death. For the best view of the fireworks, visit Thu Tiem Tunnel, Landmark 81 or Dam Sen Park.

Near the end of September, the Vietnamese celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Kid’s Festival. Often, kids can be seen running around with colorful masks and toys during this family-friendly festival. Other highlights include a lantern procession, fruit carving, lion dancing and moon cake tasting.

Generally, September is one of the worst times of the year to visit Ho Chi Minh City due to the constant rains, hot temperatures, and heavy humidity. However, if you plan on traveling with kids, this may be an excellent time to visit to enjoy the family-friendly festivities of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

When visiting Ho Chi Minh City in September, it is essential to bring a raincoat and umbrella with you at all times, as you are very likely to get caught in a rainstorm. Temperatures are otherwise warm enough to wear light, breathable clothing, such as a t-shirt and shorts or a dress.

Although sunlight is scarcest during this time of year, it is still essential to wear sun protection as UV rays can be very harsh when the sun peaks through the clouds.
