Independence Palace

The next suggestion is what to do in Saigon for the first time, where is the Independence Palace (also known as the Reunification Palace). This used to be the working place of Governor General of Indochina and President Ngo Dinh Diem before the events of April 30, 1975. Up to now, this relic is still considered as one of the most typical architectural works of South Vietnam in the 1960s and is a place that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to visit every day.

Notre Dame Cathedral – City Post Office

Not far from the Independence Palace is a duo of two destinations that tourists cannot ignore when coming to Saigon. Both are “historical witnesses” to the French influence in this city. Notre Dame Cathedral was built in the 17th century and still retains its original French architecture with red tile roofs and two large bell towers. In front of the church, there is also a small campus – where the sacred statue of Our Lady of Peace is located. Standing here you can catch a panoramic view of the front of the church.

Bui Vien West Street

Coming to Saigon without visiting Bui Vien and joining the bustling atmosphere here is considered as if you have missed half of the fun. West Street is the place that clearly demonstrates the saying “the city does not sleep” when it comes to Saigon. On weekdays, traffic is still open as usual, but every Saturday and Sunday evening, this bustling street will be blocked and turned into a pedestrian city. Walking around Bui Vien, you will see that both sides of the road are full of shops. Sometimes just a few tables, stools, a few snacks and a bottle of beer are enough for young people to chat and sing through the night.

Nguyen Hue Walking Street

Nguyen Hue pedestrian street is located right in the heart of the most district. This is one of the most crowded spots of Saigon every night. Nguyen Hue Street is only for pedestrians, flanked by restaurants and entertainment centers most loved by young Saigonese.

The pedestrian street is also a place where liberal arts groups perform impromptu, bringing a youthful and bustling atmosphere to an entire street. If you come here, do not forget to ignore interesting places very close by such as: Saigon Garden, apartment cafe 42 Nguyen Hue, Zone 87 or famous milk tea brands on both sides of the road.
