The Best Places to Visit in Udaipur — A Two Day Itinerary
Udaipur, India, often referred to as the Venice of the East, is known for its beautiful lakes and palaces. It is also considered one of the most romantic cities in all of India! Because Udaipur is fairy small and quiet, you can easily explore it in a 2 Day Udaipur Itinerary. And if you’re already planning on exploring the state of Rajasthan, it’s an easy add-on. Here are my top places to visit in Udaipur, India, in 2 days time!
🏡WHERE TO STAY
There is no shortage of beautiful hotels in Udaipur. We stayed at Udai Kothi, which is a very popular hotel in Udaipur. Although it is centrally located, I found that there are other hotels with more modern rooms and newer amenities, for a lesser price point. The WiFi also didn’t work very well in Udai Kothi, and the rooms were outdated. However, the hotel definitely checks the “Instagrammable” box. But below are some other hotels I’d recommend as well!
🚩PLACES TO VISIT IN UDAIPUR — DAY ONE OF TWO
✔AMET HAVELI
Amet Haveli is a beautiful heritage hotel. I would highly recommend swinging by for breakfast and exploring the property grounds. When I think of Udaipur, places like Amet Haveli come to mind. Beautiful white domes and endless views of the lakes. We also saw a few of their rooms while exploring the property, and although we didn’t get to stay here ourselves, we found it definitely worth staying at!
✔UDAIPUR CITY PALACE
Udaipur City Palace was closed when we tried visiting, but we’ve heard wonderful things about it! There are endless amounts of city palaces throughout India, but I’d definitely add it to the 2 Day Udaipur Itinerary.
✔JAGDISH TEMPLE
Jagdish Temple is an extremely popular Hindu Temple located centrally in Udaipur. The temple worships the God Vishnu, and you’ll see plenty of locals & tourists inside. When inside, make sure you take your shoes off, and it’s important to walk counter clockwise through the temple! This temple dates back to the 1650’s, and there is no entrance fee.
✔BAHUBALI HILLS
The highlight of this 2 Day Udaipur Itinerary is hands down, Bahubali Hills. It’s about a 15-20 minute moderate hike from the parking lot to the viewpoint. At the foot of the hike, you’ll find some vendors selling snacks and water, and at the actual view point, there’s a small restaurant. We came an hour before sunset, and the light was magical! Make sure you make your way down before it gets too dark as the hike can be a little rocky.
LAKE BADI
On your way back from Bahubali Hills to Udaipur, you’ll drive through Lake Badi. There’s a very beautiful look out with white domes, but unfortunately, I didn’t catch the name of them. However, itt’s hard to miss!! You’ll see it going and coming back. There’s a small admission price at the entrance.
✔DINNER AT UPRE 1559AD or LAKE PICHOLA HOTEL
Swing by Lake Pichola Hotel for dinner and your final moments of sunset. We ate at Upre 1559AD, and the views were breathtaking!
🚩PLACES TO VISIT IN UDAIPUR — DAY TWO OF TWO
✔JAGAT NIWAS HOTEL
Jagat Niwas is a beautiful hotel and restaurant to enjoy breakfast and take photos!! Their seating allows for stunning views of the lake. Make sure you go early to secure one of the day beds!
However, if you don’t feel like hotel hopping for breakfast, there’s a restaurant called Khamma Ghani. They have delicious and affordable traditional Indian food with similar style daybeds.
✔MANSHAPURN KARNI MATA ROPEWAY
We didn’t get the chance to visit the Manshapurn Karni Mata Ropeway as it was closed the two days we spent in Udaipur. However, it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions. It a four to five minute cable car ride that takes you to a temple, and gives you a full view of Udaipur. It’s also the first cable car/ropeway system in the state of Rajasthan.
✔AHAR CENOTAPHS
A cenotaph is an empty tomb or monument and the Ahar Cenotaphs are dedicated to the Udaipur Roayl family. These cenotaphs reflect the Indo-Islamic architecture style, with columned pavilions and beautiful domes. Keep in mind to take your shoes off if standing under the domes!
✔SUNSET AT LAKE PICHOLA
Sunrise and sunset are stunning at Lake Pichola. You’ll find a lot of locals and tourists on the bridges and going for evening walks to watch the sunset. We took an evening stroll, and it was so calming and peaceful. Definitely a great escape from the hustle bustle of the rest of India!
