The few days we went, the temperature fluctuated from 12-20 degrees, wearing a sweater that was warm enough to be comfortable.

And if you like a quiet ancient town leaning white due to snow cover, you can consider going from December to around February of the solar calendar. Buying a tour, you can choose a road tour like yourself to save money or an airplane tour to save time and energy. The road tour will depart from Hanoi to Lang Son, then from Lang Son to Nanning and take the night train from Nanning to Phuong Hoang Co town, then you will have 1 and a half days to stop and explore the ancient town . Then move to visit Phu Dung Tran, Thien Mon Son, Ho Bao Phong and roam back to Nanning, depart for Hanoi.

Because of the road tour, it will take a lot of your travel time. It will take you about 1 day and one night just to go from Hanoi to Phuong Hoang town and the same time to return. Not to mention the travel time between attractions. Personally, I have to fly an extra leg from Saigon to Hanoi to go, so the way I travel is still long and takes more steps, hihi. I admit this tour is quite extreme, especially the return part, because there is something to be excited about when going, everyone just wants to open their eyes and be present in Hanoi. The tour I took was about 7 million 500, not to mention the tip for the tour guide 700k and the airfare to Hanoi more than 3 million.

You will feel lost in the realm of historical movies that you used to see in the past with canoes, jade green river with very calm flow, sitting in the boat, watching the ferryman rowing while rowing. sing their traditional songs. In the movie, people often use the phrase “navigating the mountains”. Yes, this phrase is right here. And in the distance surrounding the old town are low hills, the maple forest is changing leaves. If we were to arrive in half a month, the ancient town of Phoenix would still be surrounded by an area of ​​golden maple leaves.

The ancient town is not very large, but the center of the oldest cultural preservation here only lasts about 1 kilometer on each side of the river. Although it is not very large, it has billions of shops from traditional confectionery, brocade clothes, silver rings and snacks of all kinds. Every little nook is interesting and has its own nostalgic touch. Despite being so small, our team got lost twice in the same place. But in return for every corner here, just stand in and have beautiful photos. But tourists are always crowded, just more or less crowded, so you have to choose a unique corner or get up early to take pictures. A recommendation for you is that if you want to take beautiful photos with the scene, choose colors such as red, yellow, brown, and white.

There are a lot of shops, selling mainly wontons, mandarins, leaf cakes and snacks at cheap prices. In the evening, you will see billions of cafes and bars along the banks of Da Giang. Although it’s called a bar, it still sings live music and has a gentle, smooth style. The “marshal” guys over there play and sing well. Oh my god, just imagine, one beautiful night, the wind was cold, wandering, and then stopped in a cafe with a charcoal fireplace and heard him sing “new river goodbye”, “the country’s daughter”… any. Wow, my heart got nocked out one more time because of that.

In general, the old town has nothing but enchanting scenery to live virtual, the atmosphere is slow and calm and the weather pampers people’s hearts, causing people to wonder where they want to go.

WHAT TO EAT, WHAT SHOULD WE EAT?

Although I have read a lot of reviews before going, I still resolutely leave out all the shrimp noodles, salt and pepper, and shrimp paste at home. Because I am a person who always believes in joining the customary profession, traveling is having to enjoy all the culinary essence of the place where I set foot. But I was wrong guys, COMPLETELY wrong. The food here is absolutely terrible. And I think this is the only minus point of the trip.

Firstly, their food is too greasy, although the tour guide has reminded to adjust to the taste of Vietnamese tourists. Second, the food was extremely bland. Particularly, the spicy part is not spicy even though it is warned that Hunan and Sichuan food is usually very spicy because of the cold weather (Maybe the tour guide told me not to put chili in it). He also said that they also have a “fried red chili green chili with paprika” dish that I haven’t tried yet. In general, the food here just stops at the level of stuffing to fill the stomach, but it’s really boring. And their rice tray will often see the appearance of wood ear, sautéed cucumber, boiled vegetables, tofu with oyster sauce, roasted duck … and spicy dishes all have a strong smell like the smell of Vietnamese basil.

About the drinks, you are also bored. Chinese people have a habit of forgetting to drink tea, so coffee and milk and their other types are not to their taste. Both coffee and fresh milk, imagine diluting Vietnamese food 5 times, it will produce their drink. They also drink very lightly, almost tasteless, neither hot nor iced, so cold. In the old town, I saw Gong Cha and The Alley but I didn’t try it, I don’t know if it’s delicious because it’s 40-52 yuan a cup (The exchange rate is about 3500 = 1 yuan).

However, the snacks here should be tried, tried to experience, the price is quite cheap, but not really excellent. The most delicious dish is definitely the “dumpling shrimp” cake. I call it the jumping shrimp cake because it is made from flour mixed with fresh and whole shrimps, which are picked up directly from the Da Giang stream. Only about 5 yuan a piece. In addition, you can try adding rotten tofu, blood cake, grilled sausage, grilled smoked pork, traditional leaf cake, boiled egg…

PRACTICAL NOTES WHEN GOING TO THE ROYAL QUEEN CITY

Should bring snacks, instant noodles, or at least salt, shrimp paste, soup powder and sugar (For putting in drinks)

It is advisable to bring tissues as Chinese toilets are squat form with no tub, no paper and horribly dirty. The toilet on the train is both an obsession for me and everyone.

It is not recommended to buy some items such as embroidered shoes, traditional Chinese dresses from Vietnam. That was a huge mistake on my part. Because the food here is extremely cheap. The embroidered shoes I ordered from Hanoi, the whole ship was 300 thousand, there the price is about 120 thousand. The embroidered white shirt and skirt I wore in the album bought and shipped from China took a million, there were about 400 thousand left. The Italian wool and brocade are super pretty. So if you want to buy concept clothes, you can wait there and buy them. And don’t be stupid like I’ve moved from Saigon to here, they can sell it for only 10 yuan for 35,000.

Just bring enough money for snacks and gifts. Like I exchanged 500 yuan for snacks and 1 million Vietnamese Dong to tip the guide. Why is that? Since this tour is an open local affiliate tour, there will be mandatory visits to shops such as herbal medicine, tea, jade, and silk. And they all shouted the price to the sky and then lowered the price to 20-25%. Like her teammate, she bought 3 boxes of tea for 400 yuan while the listed price was 200 yuan/box. At the end of the session, another boy in the group bid for 6 boxes of 600 yuan and he also sold them. And more painful than entering Wulingyuan city, the official tea shops are plentiful and the price is only 18-50 yuan a box. So if you don’t want to lose money unjustly, just print a little money, I advise not to be superfluous.

It is recommended to buy a 4G sim card from Nanning station because you won’t be able to find a place to buy it when you go to Phuong Hoang. And also should buy 4G to facilitate communication from HDV, not like our team 6 lost people do not know the language but can’t contact the guide, so they just walk around 20km.

Should try the fruit here, depending on the season, there will be food. We went this season at the end of the peach season. Peach is considered the national fruit of China and it’s really excellent guys, sweet, crunchy and fresh, the price is about 9-12 yuan/half a pound of Vietnam. We went there to eat and eat, but unfortunately we couldn’t bring any fruit back to Vietnam. Phoenix also has a black apricot oil that is glossy like a grape, round as a thumb, sweet and fragrant. Only about 15 yuan 3 cans.

Where to change currency: Saigon, you should change it at Eximbank’s foreign exchange counter 58 Dong Khoi opposite Hotel Caravelle because there are also 1 yuan, 5 yuan, 10 yuan, 20 yuan change, much more for Travelers like me. As for Hanoi, I don’t know, hihi.

OTHER SITES OF THE SCHEDULE

In addition to the ancient phoenix town, you can visit the sights of Thien Mon Son, Phu Dung town and Bao Phong Lake. Regarding these three scenes, I don’t see anything too special, even I find that it is far behind the mountainous areas in the North of Vietnam. That’s why with the meager 1.5 days in Phuong Hoang, I still regret it.
